Eat them every day: 5 healthy cereals easy to find in any store
Many types of cereals contain added sugar and are therefore unhealthy. However, there are also healthy options that can be found in any store, reports Real simple.
Nutritionist Patricia Bannan said that it is worth looking for cereals made from whole grains, not refined ones.
Choose cereals with whole grain ingredients, such as whole wheat, brown rice, and oats, which provide more nutrients such as fiber.
Grains enriched with important vitamins and minerals such as iron, vitamin D, and calcium can be an added bonus. To make the cereal even healthier, add milk, fruit, and nuts to it.
Beneficial types
Whole grain oatmeal
Oats are considered a cereal grain, so it's no surprise that you'll find them in some cereals. This type of cereal is high in healthy fiber.
Grain cereals made from whole oats are especially healthy because they contain beta-glucan, a type of soluble fiber that is great for heart health.
Shredded wheat groats
Shredded wheat is 100% whole grain and contains fiber, as well as B vitamins and minerals.
It also contains no added sugar and provides 8 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein per serving.
Grain bran
Bran refers to the outer layers of certain grains, such as wheat and oats, and it is full of nutrients. These cereals are particularly high in fiber.
Totally, bran provides a full 18 grams of fiber and zero added sugar per serving.
Brown rice
Whole-grain brown rice is a good source of fiber, antioxidants, and nutrients. This type of cereal will not raise blood sugar levels.
Granola
Granola is ideal for snacking. Not all granola is made the same way. Often this product contains added sugar, so it is harmful to health.
The nutritionist advises choosing granola made from unrefined sweeteners, such as dates. In addition, the product often contains other nutritious ingredients, such as nuts and seeds.
