Durov, founder of Telegram, faces extended detention by court
The Paris court has extended the detention of Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov for another 48 hours, reports AFP.
With this decision, the court has extended Pavel Durov's detention to 96 hours. Within this time frame, charges must either be brought against Durov or he must be released.
Meanwhile, in the investigation of particularly serious crimes, France allows for detention to be extended up to 144 hours.
Durov's detention
On the evening of August 24, French authorities detained Pavel Durov, the founder of the messaging app Telegram, at Le Bourget Airport on the outskirts of Paris.
The investigation is preliminary and accuses him of terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud, money laundering, selling stolen goods, and sexual offenses against children. Durov could face up to 20 years in prison.
Meanwhile, the messaging app’s administration has denied the allegations and emphasized that the company operates within the legal framework of the EU.
