On the night of March 11, Russians complained about the sounds of explosions. Specifically, unidentified drones attacked at least the Moscow region, Ryazan, and Kursk, according to Russian Telegram channels.

It is currently unknown what the target of the drone attack was. However, there is information suggesting that a military facility in Ryazan might have been targeted, and airports in Moscow were closed.

Drone attack on Ryazan

As of 03:11 Kyiv time, the SHOT channel reported that between 10 and 17 explosions were heard over the city of Ryazan, in the Dyagilevo area. Before this, according to Russians, they had heard the characteristic sound of a drone flying.

Soon after, the ASTRA channel also reported hearing explosions in Ryazan. Citing residents, it was claimed that drones were attacking the military airfield Dyagilevo. However, no official information about the consequences of the attack has been provided so far.

Airport closures in Moscow and sounds of explosions in the Moscow region

Around 03:30, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that six drones had allegedly been destroyed by air defense forces in the Ramensky municipal district.

At 04:24 local time, Rosaviatsiya announced that temporary restrictions had been imposed on the operations of Moscow's Zhukovsky airport to ensure the safety of civil aviation flights. Shortly thereafter, Domodedovo and Strigino airports (the second one in the city of Nizhny Novgorod) were added to the list.

Following this, Sobyanin reported that another four UAVs had been shot down in the Domodedovo and Ramensky districts. However, at 04:13, the Ostorozhno Novosti channel claimed that 11 drones had already been shot down.

Here’s what is known as of 06:20:

Unknown drones continued to attack the Moscow region and Moscow, resulting in several damages. Specifically:

  • Around 5:00 a.m., a drone crashed into a high-rise building in Ramenskoye. A fire broke out in an apartment on the top floor. Preliminary reports suggest that no one was injured;
  • Drones damaged several high-rise buildings in Vidnoye. One of them had a large hole in the roof caused by a drone;
  • One of the drones crashed into a private house in the Vysokiy bereg cottage village;
  • Debris from one of the drones damaged a high-rise building on Domodedovskaya Street in Moscow;
  • In Domodedovo, drone debris fell onto a parking lot of Miratorg. A strong fire started there, damaging over 20 vehicles;
  • Debris from the drone fell near the Domodedovo railway station, damaging part of the tracks. As a result, there is no train traffic to Moscow and the surrounding area on this section.

Additionally, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that air defense systems allegedly shot down 69 drones that were heading toward the Russian capital.

It is also known that both Sheremetyevo airport (Moscow region) and Vnukovo airport (Moscow) have closed their arrivals and departures for aircraft.

Sounds of explosions in the Kursk region

Since the beginning of the new day, Russians have been complaining about the sounds of explosions in Kursk and Kurschatov in the Kursk region. In the latter case, it was reported that the wreckage of one of the drones fell to the ground, causing a fire (likely burning only the drone fragment).
