The Moscow region came under attack by strike drones overnight on October 6. The Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya, one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, was likely among the targets, according to monitoring channels.

The drones entered the Moscow region simultaneously from several directions. Explosions were still being reported at around 3 a.m.

The refinery is one of Russia’s largest oil-processing facilities. It supplies about 40% of Moscow’s fuel market, meaning disruptions to its operations could affect fuel supplies in the Russian capital.

Another target of the attack was located near the settlement of Volodarsky and the village of Konstantinovo in the Moscow region. Following the strike, a fire broke out at the Volodarskaya linear production and dispatch station.

According to monitoring channels, it is the largest oil depot in the Moscow region and a dispatching facility through which major oil-product pipelines run.

No official information is currently available about the consequences of the attack.

Gazprom Neft-owned Moscow Oil Refinery has been targeted before. Following a drone attack on September 20, both of the refinery’s primary oil-processing units caught fire, and the facility completely halted oil refining. The following day, concrete blocks were placed around Moscow’s CHPP-8 power plant on Volgogradsky Prospekt to protect it from drones.

Strikes against Russia’s oil-refining infrastructure have continued for several nights in a row. Overnight on October 2, drones attacked Volgograd, where a fire broke out near the Lukoil refinery and the Kaustik chemical plant. On the night of October 3, satellites detected fires at the Tsimbulova facility in the Oryol region, from where Russia launches Shahed drones.
