Drinking coffee while losing weight: Coach's comment
A morning cup of coffee is a great start to the day. There are many stereotypes and myths surrounding coffee. Many believe that such a drink can only be harmful to a healthy diet, according to coach Yurii Popko.
Coffee and healthy diet
According to the expert, everyone reacts to coffee very individually.
For some, it can cause an increased heart rate, digestive disorders, or sleep deprivation, making it difficult to fall asleep.
However, some people drink 3-5 coffees a day, and it does not affect them at all. They can even sleep after drinking it or have it before bed. Such people have normal digestion and do not experience anxiety.
The coach said that you can drink coffee as part of a healthy diet, but it is all very individual.
Can you drink coffee on an empty stomach?
The stomach is an organ capable of withstanding the presence of many different substances, including harmful ones. The mucous membrane is covered with a layer of protective mucus that shields it from hydrochloric acid, which is needed to digest food.
For people with reflux disease (when part of the acidic stomach contents returns to the esophagus), coffee on an empty stomach can cause heartburn.
I want to add that heartburn in people whose sphincter between the esophagus and stomach (cardiac sphincter) does not close can be caused not only by food returned to the esophagus but also by any acidic products, mineral water, and even simply bending the body.
Coffee accelerates peristalsis, so it is beneficial for those with constipation.
Moderate coffee consumption (1-3 cups a day) does not negatively impact blood pressure in most people, including those with hypertension.
Too much caffeine can increase anxiety, nervousness, sleep disturbances, headaches, accelerated heartbeat, elevated blood pressure, and heart rhythm disorders.
Who should avoid coffee
People with existing conditions such as heart arrhythmias, nausea attacks, gastrointestinal diseases, neuroses, insomnia, or anxiety should be cautious about consuming coffee.
The effect of coffee begins within 15-20 minutes and lasts for about two hours.
