Washington has signaled that any further steps by Iran regarding its nuclear and missile programs could trigger a tough military response by Israel with the backing of the United States, according to a publication by CNN.

Washington's position

US President Donald Trump has said he is prepared to support new Israeli strikes on Iran if Tehran continues work on missile development and its nuclear program. The remarks were made ahead of talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump indicated that attempts by Iran to resume nuclear-related activities would force a decisive response, while adding that he hopes such a scenario can be avoided.

What could trigger action

According to Trump, further steps by Iran in weapons development could become a trigger. He suggested that continued progress on missile programs, or any rapid movement toward nuclear weapons, would prompt an immediate and unequivocal response.

Israel's concerns

Israel is expected to brief the US on potential scenarios for renewed strikes on Iran. Officials in Tel Aviv are concerned that Tehran has begun restoring uranium enrichment facilities damaged in US strikes in June. Israeli authorities view Iran’s efforts to revive ballistic missile production and repair elements of its air defense system as an even more serious threat.

Netanyahu plans to discuss the possibility of renewed action against Iran with Trump amid Israel’s concerns over Tehran’s missile and nuclear activities.

During former President Joe Biden’s administration, US intelligence temporarily limited the sharing of certain strategic information with Israel, citing concerns related to the Gaza conflict.
