Donald Trump wants to apply emergency powers regarding AI
US President Donald Trump said on January 25 that he would use emergency powers to ensure the operation of artificial intelligence (AI). He told reporters that the US would lead in this field, reports CNN.
"What they do need is tremendous energy, they need electricity at levels nobody’s ever seen before. And we’ll be able to supply that. We’ll be using emergency power to give that electric," he said.
At the same time, Trump did not specify the exact duration of the emergency powers.
CNN notes that this is the second time in a week that the US president has mentioned such a plan. The first time was during a virtual speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 23, where Trump stated that power plants should have their capacities.
"We’re going to make it so that the plants will have their own electric generating facilities attached right to their plant. They don’t have to worry about a utility," the US president said.
On January 21, Trump stated that three leading companies would make significant investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure. The discussion was about the creation of a new enterprise.
Trump announced that the companies would become partners and create a joint venture called Stargate. Each of the companies will initially invest $100 billion, with plans to invest up to $500 billion in the coming years.
