The exchange rate of the dollar in Ukraine continued to rise at the beginning of the week due to an increase in the interbank market, according to market monitoring data.

As of the morning of January 8, the average selling rate of the dollar in Ukraine increased by 10 kopecks to 39.30 hryvnias, while the euro rate rose by 5 kopecks to 42.95 hryvnias.

Exchange offices are buying the dollar on average at 38.80 UAH and the euro at 42.00 UAH.

On the interbank market, the exchange rate today is at 38.15-38.20 UAH/dollar (buying-selling), an increase of 12 kopecks compared to the previous day's closing.

Official rate

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has once again raised the dollar's official rate. The official rate on January 8, 2024, is set at 38.0775 UAH per 1 dollar (+0.0363 UAH). The euro rate will be 41.573 UAH per 1 euro (-0.0935 UAH).

NBU commentary

According to the NBU, significant budget expenditures at the end of 2023 and increased uncertainty about external financing inflows led to an increased demand for foreign currency in Ukraine.

Additionally, there is an increased demand for foreign currency from importers of food and household goods, fuel, as well as electricity.

As stated by the head of the NBU, Andrii Pyshnyi, the dollar-to-hryvnia exchange rate in 2024 will fluctuate according to market conditions and seasonality. At the same time, the NBU will ensure exchange rate stability and attractiveness of the hryvnia.

The maximum exchange rate on the cash market was recorded on January 1 - 39.50 for the dollar and 43.50 for the euro. Afterward, the rate began to decrease.
