NBU commentary
According to the NBU, significant budget expenditures at the end of 2023 and increased uncertainty about external financing inflows led to an increased demand for foreign currency in Ukraine.
Additionally, there is an increased demand for foreign currency from importers of food and household goods, fuel, as well as electricity.
As stated by the head of the NBU, Andrii Pyshnyi, the dollar-to-hryvnia exchange rate in 2024 will fluctuate according to market conditions and seasonality. At the same time, the NBU will ensure exchange rate stability and attractiveness of the hryvnia.
The maximum exchange rate on the cash market was recorded on January 1 - 39.50 for the dollar and 43.50 for the euro. Afterward, the rate began to decrease.
