Adding five specific foods to your diet could be the secret to maintaining youthful, glowing skin, even during the harshest winter months, according to Dr. Keyana Emamian.

Foods that prevent wrinkles and slow aging

Aesthetic doctor Keyana Emamian emphasized the importance of a nutrient-rich diet to combat winter’s toll on the skin.

“A nutrient-dense diet can make all the difference during the winter. There are some powerhouse foods that can protect your skin from dryness, boost hydration and promote a radiant glow, even in the colder months,” she said.

Leading her list of skin-saving superfoods is avocado.

Avocado is rich in monounsaturated fats that help retain moisture and support skin elasticity. It is also an excellent source of vitamin E, an antioxidant that shields the skin from free radical damage and maintains a smooth, glowing complexion.

Next on the list are berries, recommended for their high antioxidant content. Blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries not only taste delicious but also work wonders for your skin.

Berries are packed with vitamin C, essential for collagen production. Collagen is the protein responsible for keeping skin firm and youthful, and regular consumption of berries can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and dullness.

To combat flaky, dry skin that often occurs in colder months, Dr. Emamian suggests fatty fish due to its omega-3 content.

Omega-3s strengthen the skin barrier, locking in moisture and reducing inflammation. They are particularly beneficial for addressing winter dryness and peeling skin.

The expert recommends eating fatty fish like salmon or mackerel twice a week for optimal results.

Dr. Emamian also encourages incorporating dark leafy greens such as kale, spinach, and Swiss chard into your diet to promote skin health.

These greens are rich in vitamins A and C, which aid in skin repair and regeneration.

Vitamin A supports cell turnover, giving you a brighter complexion, while vitamin C stimulates collagen production and helps prevent hyperpigmentation.

For an easy winter glow, she recommends tossing a handful of these nutrient-rich greens into soups, stews, or smoothies.

Finally, nuts and seeds are her top pick for their moisturizing and protective properties.

Almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds are rich in vitamin E, zinc, and essential fatty acids, which help soothe dry, irritated skin and boost elasticity.
