Following a simple daily habit is essential for sleeping better and staying energized. In particular, you should walk in the sun daily, as it positively affects both physical and mental health, the website The Mirror reports.

Importance of walks for health

Neuroscientist Dr Andrew Huberman explained that sunlight exposure in the eyes in the morning is absolutely vital. It directly influences our mood, sleep, ability to wake up and concentrate, hormone levels, immune system, and stress management.

"Humans evolved to live in harmony with the natural environment. Our ancestors spent their days exposed to the dynamic interplay of sunlight, temperature changes, and fresh air," explains Kate Booker, a naturopath and nutritional therapist.

However, the modern lifestyle keeps people indoors, depriving them of these natural regulators. This disconnection contributes to many chronic health issues, such as poor sleep, low energy, hormonal imbalance, and increased stress.

A study in the United Kingdom involving 85,000 people showed a connection between poor daylight exposure and the increase in conditions such as major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

How sunlight is beneficial

On a sunny day, try to go outside for 10 minutes within the first few hours after waking up and look at the sun.

On a cloudy day, increase this time to 20-30 minutes.

Energy for whole day

The most beneficial impact is on the internal biological clock, known as the circadian rhythm. Looking at the sun in the morning helps suppress melatonin and provides energy for the entire day.

This naturally begins melatonin production in the evening, ensuring a long and restful sleep. Melatonin is also a powerful antioxidant, which is why it is crucial for healthy aging.

Going outside in the morning can immediately impact your energy levels. This is because light at this time of day stimulates the body to release cortisol, giving you a healthy energy boost.

The release of cortisol at the right time acts as a wake-up signal and supports the ability to focus throughout the day.

Improves mood

Lack of natural light exposure can lead to mood imbalances, including seasonal affective disorders. A simple remedy for this is to go outside as soon as the sun rises, as this stimulates the production of serotonin, the mood-enhancing hormone.

Serotonin is a key neurotransmitter responsible for mood stability and feelings of happiness.

In the morning, sunlight has low ultraviolet radiation and high infrared light levels, which can stimulate mitochondrial function, increasing energy production at the cellular level.
