American actress Demi Moore made her first public statement after her unexpected defeat at the Oscars, which took place on March 2 and 3 in Los Angeles.

Demi Moore has won almost all film awards for her role in the movie Substance. However, the main award, the Oscar for Best Actress, went to 25-year-old Mikey Madison, who played the stripper Anora in Sean Baker's film of the same name.

As Mikey went up to receive the award, cameras captured Demi's face, and many thought she was upset.

However, the 62-year-old actress assured that she didn't feel any negativity. On the contrary, she is glad that her own return to cinema has become a real triumph. Moore also thanked the team of the film The Substance.Демі Мур вперше прокоментувала несподівану поразку на "Оскарі"

"As this awards season comes to a close, I'm so overwhelmed with gratitude for this journey. Thank you to the cast, crew, and fans of The Substance, director Coralie Farjeet and my co-star, the beautiful Margaret Qualley. I'm grateful to my team, my fellow nominees, and everyone who made this experience so amazing, unforgettable, full of joy and light," said Moore.

Moore also said what she thought about Mikey's victory. She wished her many exciting and promising projects in the future.

"A huge congratulations to Mikey Madison - can't wait to see what you do next," assured the Golden Globe winner.

As a reminder, Sean Baker's film Anora won the main award at the 2025 Oscars and five statuettes in total. In Ukraine, the film was criticized because of the participation of Russian actors Yuri Borisov and Mark Eidelstein, who did not condemn Russian aggression against Ukraine and starred in Russian films, including in occupied Crimea.

In addition to the main prize, the film won nominations for Best Actress (Mikey Madison), Best Director (Sean Baker), Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing.

The film has been compared to the classic movie Pretty Woman because it also tells the story of a kind of Cinderella. The main character, a stripper from Brooklyn, changes her life by hastily marrying Vanya, the son of a Russian billionaire.

However, Vanya's parents do not approve of this marriage and try to dissolve it, which leads to problems in the relationship.

The film won at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received the main award.

Critics praised it highly, and Russian supporting actor Yuri Borisov was even nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor.
