Approximately 49% of British voters are ready to support the idea of the country rejoining the European Union, according to The Guardian.

Journalists have published the results of a new poll conducted by the Messina Group (TMG).

The idea of Britain's return to the EU was first voiced and continues to be championed by Prime Minister Andy Burnham. It is entirely possible that he will soon propose holding a new referendum to bring the country back into the bloc.

The poll results indicate that 49% of respondents support the UK's re-entry into the EU, while 28.5% are opposed. A further third of Britons believe that a separate referendum must be held before such a decision is made.

Other options for deepening relations with the EU also enjoy significant support. Preserving current relations with the bloc while maximizing the removal of trade barriers was supported by 48.2% of respondents, with 20.9% opposed.

Joining the customs union is supported by 47.1% of respondents, while 20.7% are against it. Additionally, 45.1% supported joining the single market, and 45.5% backed associated membership. At the same time, 42% of respondents are ready to maintain the current format of relations.

Meanwhile, the idea of further distancing the UK from the EU is supported by only 27.9% of respondents, with 41.2% opposing this option.

Regarding the timeline for a possible return to the EU, 25.9% of respondents would like this to happen immediately. Another 22.9% consider the next three years to be the optimal period, while 8.4% prefer the next decade.

Interestingly, 52.4% of Britons believe that the decision to leave the EU was a mistake. The opposite view is held by 29.7%, while 17.9% remain undecided.

Regarding the assessment of Brexit itself, 54.9% labeled it a failure, while 12.2% consider it a success. Another 23.2% are undecided, and 9.7% responded that they do not know.

Incidentally, the Prime Minister of Albania recently stated that Ukraine is being misled about joining the EU through the standard path.
