Coalition of the Willing on Ukraine agreed that at least one European leader should talk to Russia, says Finnish President Alexander Stubb, quoted by MTV.

According to Stubb, either France or the United Kingdom, as the leaders of the Coalition of the Willing, should talk to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The leaders of Ukraine's European partner countries are not currently negotiating with Vladimir Putin. At the beginning of the full-scale war, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke with Putin.

Scholz's last conversation with Putin took place in November 2024. These were the first such talks in two years. Scholz later said that Putin had not changed his mind about the war in Ukraine.

Coalition of the Willing

Britain and France led efforts to secure peace in Ukraine. A Coalition of the Willing was created, bringing together countries that are willing to provide troops or other assistance to support peace in Ukraine.

Europe is currently working with Ukraine to develop a plan for a possible peacekeeping mission. French President Emmanuel Macron said that the partners would present a plan to monitor the ceasefire in Ukraine.

He also proposed sending a deterrence force to Ukraine after the war ended, meaning troops that would prevent new aggression from the Russian side, but would not be on the front line.
