Hollywood actor George Clooney reacted sharply to a new wave of criticism from U.S. President Donald Trum

Public spat after Clooney interview

The public dispute between Clooney and Trump flared up again after the U.S. president commented on the actor’s recent acquisition of French citizenship.

The conflict intensified following Clooney’s interview with Variety, in which he recalled past interactions with Trump.

''I knew him very well, '' Clooney said.

''He used to call me a lot, and he tried to help me get into a hospital once to see a back surgeon. I’d see him out at clubs and at restaurants. He’s a big goofball. Well, he was. That all changed, '' the actor added in the same conversation.

After this, Donald responded with a public post on the social media platform Truth Social, sharply criticizing the Hollywood star.

"Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies. He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics," added the U.S. president.

In response, the Ocean’s Eleven star issued a statement in which he ironically echoed one of Trump’s slogans, giving it his own twist.

“We have to make America great again. We’ll start in November,” Clooney said in the statement published by Deadline.

The actor’s statement followed Trump’s New Year tirade, in which he also referenced Clooney’s position on Joe Biden’s participation in the 2024 presidential election.

''Failed political pundit” dumped former President Joe Biden like a dog,'' Trump said earlier, commenting on Clooney’s interview with 60 Minutes.

Separately, the US president criticized reports that Clooney and his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, had obtained French citizenship.

The couple purchased an estate in Provence in 2021 for $8.3 million, featuring an 18th-century house, a swimming pool, a tennis court, gardens, and a decorative lake.

Clooney has also previously publicly criticized the American media for yielding to politicians.

''If CBS and ABC had challenged those lawsuits and said, ‘Go fuck yourself,’ we wouldn’t be where we are in the country,'' Clooney said/

In the summer, George again emphasized the importance of civic engagement while commenting on current politics on CNN.

''But you know, if you spend your life worrying about things, then you won’t do things, '' Clooney told Anderson Cooper.

“I want to be able to look at my kids in the eye and say where we stood and what we did at certain times in history, and I have no problem with that,” he added.

Trump, for his part, regularly returns to publicly criticizing Clooney, calling him a ''very disloyal backstabber'' and a “third-rate movie actor,” further intensifying their long-standing public feud.
