Christmas cheese alert - Mrs Kirkham's recalls products
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a recall for certain cheese products from Mrs Kirkham's due to a potential E. coli contamination risk, urging consumers to check their cheeseboards and hampers, according to BBC.
The recall specifically affects the company's Creamy Lancashire, Tasty Lancashire, Mature Lancashire, and Smoked Lancashire cheese varieties. These products have been sold individually and as part of hampers or charcuterie grazing platters.
The FSA advises that these cheeses might be contaminated with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), which can cause symptoms similar to the flu, including severe complications in rare cases.
Consumers who have purchased the affected products are advised to return them for a full refund and to take precautions such as washing hands, equipment, and surfaces that may have come into contact with the cheese.
Preventive recall
The FSA identified the issue through routine checks, leading to the precautionary recall of the mentioned products.
Various retailers, including Waitrose and Booths, and smaller outlets stock Mrs Kirkham's cheeses.
The recall is a preventive measure to ensure consumer safety and prevent potential health risks associated with the contaminated products.
