Chinese leader supports Macron's initiative on Olympic truce
Chinese leader Xi Jinping has endorsed French President Emmanuel Macron's initiative for an Olympic ceasefire, according to Le Monde.
In turn, Macron welcomed his colleague's readiness to "address all parties with a request for an Olympic ceasefire during the upcoming Games."
"We believe together that this initiative can be an opportunity to work towards a solid settlement in full compliance with international law," said the French President.
Olympic Games
The 2024 Summer Olympic Games, the XXIII Olympic Games, will be held in Paris, the capital of France, from July 26 to August 11.
Recently, Macron stated in an interview with Ukrainian media that he would ask Russia for a ceasefire during the Olympics. However, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin preemptively dismissed this idea. He claimed to support peaceful negotiations rather than a "pause for rearmament."
In response, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Putin does not understand the concept of a ceasefire and that the Olympics do not have authority over him.
