Capture of Kurakhove will enable Russians to prepare for advancement
The Russian military is currently fighting in the center of Kurakhove. If they capture the town, the Russian troops will be able to gain a foothold in the area, according to British intelligence.
“Kurakhove forms an important section of the frontline, and its seizure would allow Russian forces to consolidate positions in the area and set conditions for further advances westwards,” the British Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
Intelligence has learned that most of the Russian advances in recent weeks have been concentrated in three areas - Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, and Velyka Novosilka. All of them are located in the Donetsk region and are closely interconnected.
According to British intelligence, Russia is gradually advancing toward Pokrovsk, taking control of the town of Selydove and expanding its front. Russian troops remain about 6-7 kilometers from Pokrovsk itself.
At the same time, the British Ministry of Defense stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces conducted a limited counteroffensive north of Velyka Novosilka, recapturing the village of Novyi Komar from Russian troops.
Nevertheless, Russian forces continue to try to cut off supply routes on the northern outskirts of Velyka Novosilka and surround the town. Russian troops are also advancing toward Velyka Novosilka from the south, having recently captured the village of Blahodatne.
The situation around Kurakhove
Earlier today, it was reported that Ukrainian paratroopers destroyed several Russian assault groups in the area of Kurakhove.
In total, almost 30 Russians were killed in this special operation.
The Institute for the Study of War said the Russians were advancing near Kurakhove.
