Broccoli and cauliflower both belong to the cruciferous vegetable family and are considered true superfoods. They are low in calories and packed with fiber, making them excellent choices for supporting digestion and maintaining a healthy weight.

However, these popular vegetables differ in their vitamin content. RBC-Ukraine explains the key differences.

Why broccoli stands out

Broccoli is considered the clear winner when it comes to vitamins K and C. A single serving provides your entire daily requirement for both nutrients. Vitamin K supports healthy blood clotting and strong bones.

Broccoli is also rich in lutein, an antioxidant that helps protect eyesight and may reduce age-related damage to the retina. Overall, its green florets contain higher levels of powerful antioxidants.

What makes cauliflower special

Cauliflower is an excellent choice for people following a low-carb diet. It contains slightly fewer calories and carbohydrates than broccoli, making it a popular substitute for mashed potatoes or even pizza crust.

It is also high in vitamin B6 and folate, nutrients that are essential for proper nervous system function and women's health.

Which one should you choose?

If you compare the overall amount of vitamins and minerals, broccoli comes out on top. It contains more calcium and immune-supporting compounds than cauliflower.

However, nutritionists do not recommend giving up cauliflower. The healthiest approach is to regularly alternate both vegetables in your diet, allowing your body to benefit from the widest possible range of nutrients.
