In March 2024, 38% of all attacks by the Russian army on the frontlines were concentrated in the southwest of Donetsk. However, Russia failed to achieve any significant breakthroughs in this area, according to the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom.

According to the report, the number of registered Russian attacks across the frontlines in March 2024 was 9% lower compared to February 2024, decreasing from approximately 2340 to 2120.

British intelligence data indicates that the number of registered attacks in the Avdiivka direction constituted a third of all attacks in February when the city was captured by Russian forces, but in March, it decreased to a quarter.

Meanwhile, the number of registered Russian attacks in the southwest of Donetsk increased from 721 in February to 806 in March, constituting 38% of all attacks on the frontlines.

"Despite this effort, Russia did not make any notable gains in the area, and continues to contest small settlements including Novomykhailivka, Heorhiivka, and Urozhaine," the Ministry of Defence of Britain notes.

Frontline situation

Since the start of the offensive operations in October 2023, the Russian army has seized 505 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory.

Ukrainian forces continue to defend across the entire frontline. After the capture of Avdiivka, the pace of Russian advancement slowed down.

As President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously said, the situation is better than it was two to three months ago when the Ukrainian Defense Forces faced shortages of artillery ammunition and various types of weapons.
