BRICS is not interested in weakening US dollar - Indian Foreign Minister
Recently elected US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose tariffs if the BRICS creates a new currency. However, the countries of the organization are not at all interested in weakening the dollar, says Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
His remarks came a week after US President-elect Donald Trump demanded that the BRICS countries - which include such major emerging economies as India, Russia, and China - commit not to create a new currency or support another currency that would replace the dollar and be subject to a 100% duty.
Trump's recent announcement that he intends to impose tariffs on goods coming from Mexico, Canada, and China has stirred up global financial markets.
