Boosting vision naturally: Key juices to combat eye strain
Due to the lack of sunlight in the fall and winter, increased artificial lighting, and frequent screen time on computers or phones, our eyes become strained, and visual sharpness declines. However, this issue can be addressed through nutrition.
Strona Zdrowia reveals what exactly you should eat and drink to maintain visual sharpness.
How to naturally improve eyesight
It’s quite natural for your vision to weaken in the fall. We have less access to natural sunlight, so the vitamin D reserve that supports vision also decreases. With the colder autumn-winter months, we spend more time in enclosed, heated spaces, which dries out our conjunctiva.
Dry, cold outdoor air, wind, and smog caused by various heating sources also irritate the eyes, leading to burning sensations and tearing. All these factors contribute to deteriorating visual acuity.
However, there’s no need to rush to change lenses or glasses or to use eye supplements. All you need is a balanced diet that supplies your body with ingredients to positively impact vision improvement.
A straightforward approach is to focus on beneficial drinks and juices, which can quickly replenish vitamin deficiencies and strengthen the eyes.
What to drink to improve vision
The organ of vision is one of our most important sensory organs, but we don’t think about it every day. We seek ways to enhance our vision only when it starts to weaken. Fortunately, there are quite simple, natural methods for this, and one of them is consuming vegetable and fruit juices.
You can drink these juices on their own or mix them, as well as add them to smoothies and cocktails along with vegetables or fruits you enjoy to soften the flavor (for example, parsley or pumpkin juice). However, the greatest benefit comes from regular consumption — meaning daily.
Which juice is best for the eyes:
- Carrot juice - Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A. Carrots also contain lutein and zeaxanthin, which prevent macular degeneration. Regularly drinking carrot juice supports retinal health and enhances visual acuity.
- Parsley juice - Like carrots, parsley is high in beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A in the body. It’s also a source of antioxidants, such as vitamin C, which fight free radicals and thus delay aging processes, including those affecting the eyes.
- Pumpkin juice - Pumpkins are rich in beta-carotene, which converts into vitamin A, essential for the proper functioning of our eyes. Thanks to this and other carotenoids like lutein and zeaxanthin in the vegetable, pumpkin juice supports vision, improves visual acuity, and prevents eye diseases like cataracts or macular degeneration.
- Citrus juices like oranges, grapefruits, and lemons are high in vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant. It eliminates free radicals, supports cell regeneration, and strengthens the tiny blood vessels in the eyes.
