A blow dryer is an electrical device used for quickly drying hair after washing. The primary function of a blow dryer is to blow hot or cool air onto the hair, allowing it to dry faster than it would without its use.

A hairstylist with 20 years of experience, Ruslana Biela, explained whether this device is harmful for our hair in an exclusive comment to RBC-Ukraine.

Does blow dryer damage hair?

The hairstylist assured that the blow dryer is not at the top of the list for drying out hair.

"If we are to talk about tools that can dry out or damage hair, the blow dryer will always be at the bottom of the list. The top places would go to hair straighteners, curling irons, and the like," said Ruslana.

Using a blow dryer every time is safe and even necessary.

"The key is in having a quality device with a good airflow speed and it is very important to use a conditioner or leave-in product. Because in the drying process, all of this together helps to close the hair cuticle and smooth out the hair," the expert said.

According to the specialist, a woman who properly dries her hair with a blow dryer using the right products and a brush will always have shinier hair than someone who lets their hair air dry.

Ruslana emphasized that incorrectly chosen coloring products and unclear procedures damage and dry out hair way more.

"The biggest culprits for drying out hair are incorrect aggressive colorings and other chemical procedures, as well as frequent use of straighteners and curling irons without protection," concluded the hairdresser.
