The statement by Russian president Vladimir Putin on the alleged "encirclement" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region is blatant disinformation. Since the beginning of the operation, Russia has irretrievably lost thousands of military personnel, according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.

Syrskyi says that Putin's words are blatant disinformation that does not reflect the real situation. Ukraine's forces continue active operations in the Kursk direction and have been destroying the Russian combat potential for the third consecutive month.

"Despite the intense pressure from the enemy in this direction, the occupiers are suffering significant losses in personnel and military equipment," he added.

Since August 8, the beginning of the operation in the Kursk region, the Russian army has lost 17,819 military personnel in this area, including:

  • 6,662 - irretrievable losses;
  • 10,446 - sanitary losses;
  • 711 taken prisoner.

Russian losses in weaponry and military equipment amounted to:

  • 45 tanks;
  • 256 armored fighting vehicles;
  • 565 units of automotive equipment;
  • 99 artillery systems;
  • 5 multiple launch rocket systems.

Putin's statements at the BRICS summit

During the recent BRICS summit, Putin claimed the alleged "successes" of the Russian military on the front lines as part of the so-called "special operation" and "encirclement," as well as "losses" of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region.

He accused Ukraine of allegedly being unwilling to negotiate, stating that "the ball is in Kyiv's court." He also expressed dissatisfaction with NATO's enlargement and the ongoing tensions between the alliance and Russia.

Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Putin "seeks a permanent ceasefire."
