Biden's team makes new statement on Ukraine's strikes on Russia
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan does not have a clear answer as to whether Washington will allow the use of US weapons for deeper strikes against Russia.
He noted that this question was asked of US President Joe Biden at a press conference after the NATO summit. Then he said that the United States is constantly looking at the situation - what Ukraine needs, what can be offered, and according to this, America makes its judgments. And as the war in Ukraine changes, the US support changes, the opportunities that are provided evolve, and the parameters that are set change.
“I can't give a definitive answer to that question for the future,” Sullivan said at the annual security forum held in Colorado.
At the same time, the US National Security Advisor emphasized that Biden's position now is that circumstances are changing. Therefore, he allowed the weapons provided to Ukraine to strike at Russian territory near the border when Russia launched a second offensive towards Kharkiv.
However, so far, Biden's policy on long-range strikes on Russian territory has not changed.
Sullivan also said that US weapons are critical to this war. However, he does not know what the policy of the likely new administration will be.
In addition, the US National Security Advisor believes that the expected transfer of coordination of military support for Ukraine from the US to NATO will ensure the supply of aid to Ukrainian troops under any administration.
He emphasized that NATO will play a crucial role and will be the basis for supporting Ukraine “on a long-term, sustainable basis.”
A few days earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy once again called on the West to allow strikes deep into Russian territory. In particular, to attack the airfields from which Russia attacks Ukraine.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Britain would not help Ukraine hit targets in Russia. But at the same time, the country may allow the use of the provided weapons for such attacks.
