Biden's office responds to Putin's nuclear threats
The White House has commented on the nuclear threats made by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, saying that US President Joe Biden has been briefed on the matter, according to the White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre.
"The President certainly is aware," she said.
The White House spokesperson added that Putin reiterated Russia's nuclear doctrine once again. She labeled Putin's rhetoric as "irresponsible."
"Nevertheless, Russia’s nuclear rhetoric has been reckless and irresponsible throughout this conflict. It’s — it is Russia that brutally invaded Ukraine without provocation or justification. And we’ll continue to support Ukraine as they — they defend their people and their sovereign territory from Russian aggression," said Karine Jean-Pierre.
Putin's remarks
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, in an interview with propagandists, said that Russia is technically prepared for nuclear war.
At the same time, Putin threatened Ukraine and the West with nuclear weapons if the US sends troops to Ukraine. The dictator said that Russia would consider such a move as an escalation of the war.
Russia possesses the largest stockpile of nuclear warheads in the world. Media outlets have investigated how many nuclear weapons Russia has and who controls them.
