Austria's Chancellor Karl Nehammer warns of an uncontrollable "escalation spiral" in the war in Ukraine, according to Der Standard.

He says that, to prevent a third world war, it is important to be vigilant, because one can also stumble into wars.

"New solutions are needed so that the conflict can end," Nehammer emphasized.

He added that Europe is in a kind of "Western echo chamber" and it must engage BRICS countries in cooperation.

"Above all, the West needs China and India to look for a peace solution. These two countries must be spoken to on an equal footing," he said.

Backstory

On February 26, a working meeting of about 20 EU leaders took place in Paris. Conference participants discussed ways to counter Russia and possible ways to assist Ukraine in confronting the aggressor in the context of the escalation of the situation on the front lines in recent weeks.

During the summit, French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out NATO deploying troops to assist Ukraine. According to him, the main problem is that there is currently no consensus on this issue.

In turn, French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne explained what operations foreign troops could carry out in Ukraine.

A number of NATO countries have already spoken out against this idea, including the United States, Germany, Czechia, Bulgaria, Spain, and Italy.
