Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska secured her spot in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, defeating Victoria Azarenka 2-0 (6-7, 4-6). Meanwhile, her compatriot Elina Svitolina faced an unfortunate exit as she had to retire during the 1/8 final match against Linda Noskova, according to the match results.

Australian Open, 4th Round, Women's Singles

Azarenka – Yastremska – 0:2 (6:7, 4:6)

Noskova – Svitolina – 0:0 (3:0, retired)

Yastremska displayed a commanding performance, overcoming former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in straight sets. The Ukrainian took an early lead with a break and solid serves, leading 3-1 in the opening set. However, Azarenka responded with two breaks, taking the lead at 4-3.

Towards the end of the set, Yastremska regained momentum with two breaks, including a break to love against Azarenka, and forced a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, she edged out the veteran 8-6.

In the second set, Azarenka started strongly with a 3-0 lead, but Yastremska mounted a comeback, winning five consecutive games. After a short break, Yastremska comfortably sealed the victory on her serve, closing the match in just 54 minutes.

Unfortunately, Svitolina couldn't follow Yastremska's success, facing challenges from the start against Linda Noskova. Svitolina experienced back pain and, due to health issues, decided to retire from the match, conceding three games at the beginning.

As a result, Yastremska will be joining Marta Kostyuk in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. Her opponent will be Svitolina's unintentional benefactor, Noskova. The match is scheduled for January 23.
