Today, rubber clogs with holes are everywhere. People seem to fall into two camps: some love Crocs and collect multiple pairs, while others can't stand the trend.
Can you wear Crocs every day? Foot and Ankle Clinic explains.
Why millions of people choose Crocs
The biggest advantage of Crocs is their lightweight, roomy design. The ventilation holes allow feet to breathe freely.
They're also incredibly easy to slip on and off without using your hands, making them a convenient option for older adults and people with limited mobility.
Crocs are also a popular choice for swimming pools and public showers because the waterproof material helps protect feet from fungi and bacteria.
Another reason for their popularity is the wide range of decorative charms that let people personalize their shoes.
Why doctors advise against wearing them for long periods
Despite their popularity, specialists warn that Crocs are not designed for extended wear or long hours on your feet.
The main issue is the lack of proper arch support. Their soft sole doesn't provide the structural support needed for healthy foot alignment.
The heel strap also isn't enough to keep the foot securely in place like a regular sneaker does.
Because of this loose fit, many people unconsciously grip the shoe with their toes while walking to stop it from slipping off.
Over time, this repeated strain may contribute to:
- Painful blisters
- Joint deformities
- Chronic heel pain
Experts' final verdict
Orthopedic specialists aren't saying you should throw away your favorite Crocs—they simply recommend wearing them in moderation.
They're perfectly suitable for short trips, such as:
- Walking around the yard
- Using them after a workout
- Visiting the beach or pool
However, they should not be your footwear of choice for sports, long walks, or hiking. For extended periods of walking or physical activity, experts recommend supportive shoes with proper foot stabilization.
