Apple is preparing to introduce the Watch Series 12 smartwatch. Although no major redesign is expected from the new generation, insiders are reporting a possible return of the premium ceramic casing, according to Apple Insider.

The information about the return of the ceramic casing was released by an insider known as Kosutami. He stated that the ceramic Apple Watch will return and will appear specifically in the Series 12 model.

Notably, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman had also previously noted that Apple is considering the possibility of bringing ceramic back to the Series 12 smartwatches.

History of ceramic use in Apple Watch

Apple first used this material in white for the exclusive Apple Watch Edition Series 2. In the next generation, Series 3, the company added a gray version of the ceramic casing.

After a break with the Series 4, the ceramic version briefly returned with the Series 5, but starting with the Series 6, developers completely abandoned this material.

How much could the new model cost?

The ceramic casing has always been positioned as the most expensive and premium option in Apple's lineup. If officially announced, buyers should prepare for a high price.

For comparison, at the time of the Apple Watch Series 5 release, prices were distributed as follows:

  • The aluminum version cost from $399 to $429;
  • Stainless steel and titanium casings started at $699 and $799, respectively;
  • The ceramic model was priced at a minimum of $1,299.
