Alternative to Russian: EU to increase gas purchases from Azerbaijan
The European Union has agreed with Azerbaijan to increase gas supplies to its member states to reduce dependence on Russia.
European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said that the EU plans to increase gas purchases from Azerbaijan.
"We have reached a number of agreements. Among them: an increase in gas exports from Azerbaijan to Europe to 20 billion cubic meters by 2027, as well as the need to increase the capacity of the existing gas transportation infrastructure," Simson said.
She added that Russia has shown itself to be an unreliable partner in gas supplies to Europe.
At the same time, it is noted that in 2023, Azerbaijan supplied almost 12 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe.
Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine went through the winter for the first time using only its own gas for the heating season.
