Reddit users admitted they didn't recognize the warning signs at first, even though, in hindsight, they seemed obvious.
RBC-Ukraine rounded up the most popular Reddit comments to explain how to tell when a relationship may already be coming to an end.
Spending time together starts to feel like a chore
One of the most upvoted responses in a thread titled "What are some subtle early signs that a relationship is ending?" was simple but powerful.
"Spending time together starts to feel more like a routine than something you actually enjoy," one user wrote.
It happens gradually. You're physically together, but emotionally in separate worlds. No one says anything, yet both of you can feel something has changed—and that's worth paying attention to.
You're no longer excited to see each other
This comment received nearly 6,000 upvotes, likely because so many people related to it.
"When you haven't seen each other for a few days, and you don't feel excited about seeing them again."
Many users described this as the turning point. Once you realize it, it's hard to keep pretending everything is fine.
Arguments stop being about fixing things
"Even the arguments become one-sided. The other person simply stops trying to solve the problem," another user wrote.
A lack of conflict is often mistaken for peace. But sometimes it's a sign that someone has emotionally checked out. When a person stops caring, they stop arguing too.
The biggest red flag
As long as strong emotions still exist, many believe there's hope. But emotional indifference is a different story.
"When they no longer care enough to be upset or angry with you. It means they've already left emotionally and have started treating you like a stranger," Reddit users explained.
Hearing your partner's name changes your expression
Have you ever noticed yourself feeling irritated or uneasy just hearing your partner's name?
"When other people mention your significant other, and you instinctively cringe or feel annoyed."
You may not have admitted it to yourself yet, but your body already knows something is wrong.
You stop wanting to share important things
One of the most heartfelt comments came from someone who only realized the truth after nine years together.
"I started questioning whether I should tell him things. I didn't want to talk about having children, when we'd get a dog, or even good news from work because I was afraid it would upset him or make the conversation awkward. If you don't feel comfortable openly talking to your partner about your life anymore, that's already a huge problem," the Reddit user wrote.
The habits you once loved now irritate you
"When the little quirks you once found adorable suddenly make you bite your tongue."
The way they eat, laugh, or even breathe. Things that once seemed charming now get under your skin. Sometimes that's difficult to admit even to yourself.
You no longer feel wanted
This comment resonated with thousands of readers.
"When you want to spend all your time with them, but they interact with you less and less."
Think about your plans: vacations, moving, starting a new chapter. Is your partner part of that picture? And more importantly, are you still part of theirs? Sometimes the answers to the hardest questions are right in front of you.
