6 tips from top trainer on how to avoid gaining weight during winter holidays
The winter holidays are a time of joy, gatherings with loved ones, and delicious food. However, it is during this period that many face the problem of overeating and gaining extra weight. How can you enjoy the holidays without harming your health and figure?
Ukrainian trainer and nutritionist Viktor Mandziak shares six rules for avoiding weight gain.
Stay active
Physical activity is your best ally in combating extra calories. Go for walks, sledding, build snowmen, or do exercises at home. The more you move, the more calories your body burns.
Eat only when you're hungry
The holidays are not an excuse to eat nonstop. Before grabbing another dish, ask yourself, "Am I really hungry?" Eat only when your body truly needs it.
Start with filling but light dishes
At the beginning of a meal, choose lower-calorie foods: vegetable salads, fruits, lean meats, or fish. This will help fill your stomach and reduce the desire to overindulge in high-calorie dishes like Olivier salad or cake.
Try intermittent fasting
If you’re invited to dinner, say at 7:00 p.m., consider fasting throughout the day. This way, you won’t exceed your daily calorie intake, you’ll impress your hosts with a good appetite, and you’ll protect your figure.
Balance festive days with regular days
Festive days are followed by regular ones, which can be used for balance. Indulge a little during the holidays, but cut back on food and increase your activity during regular days. This helps maintain equilibrium.
Choose alcohol wisely
Alcohol contains calories too, especially sweet cocktails or dessert wines. Opt for dry wine or strong spirits like vodka or brandy, but avoid overindulging.
The holidays are no reason to disrupt your nutritional balance. Remember, the true essence of the holidays lies in connection, warmth, and joy. Food should be a part of the celebration, not its centerpiece. By following these simple tips, you can enjoy the winter holidays, stay healthy, and keep in good shape.
