Weight loss is a relevant goal for many people for various reasons. A dietitian shared five tips that can help shed excess weight without intense effort, reports The Mirror.

Healthy eating plate

Nutritionist Guna Bilande explained that the first step is ensuring you eat healthily. Specifically, 25% of the plate should include lean protein sources, such as chicken, salmon, or eggs.

Half of the plate should be dedicated to vegetables, while the remaining portion can consist of complex carbohydrates, such as potatoes, rice, or pasta.

"Lean protein is really important in the diet because it helps to build and repair muscle and keeps you feeling fuller for longer, therefore promoting fat loss," the expert said.

Meal preparation

After a long day, it can be easy to skip a healthy eating plan. Therefore, when cooking, always prepare more than you need. This way, you can pack leftovers and store them in the fridge or freezer for another day.

This applies to everything from salads and soups for lunch to broth for dinner. It prevents you from reaching for convenience foods that may be high in salt and sugar.

Eat slowly

In many cases, people need to relearn how to chew properly. While eating, it is important to slow down and avoid all screens, including televisions and phones.

This will help you stop sooner and avoid overeating since nothing will distract you. Additionally, thoroughly chewing food can improve digestion.

Drink plenty of water

Hydration is another key piece of advice from Guna for curbing hunger.

If you feel hungry, start by drinking a glass of water. You are less likely to overeat if your body is well-hydrated and receives a high protein level.

Exercise regularly

Just 30 minutes of physical activity a day can work wonders, and it could be something as simple as walking. There's no need to go to the gym every day.

"That could be walking, yoga, Pilates, swimming, or whatever works for you. Find something that works for you and stick with it. The small things matter," the expert noted.
