Armed criminals in Mexico hijacked a truck carrying 33 tons of gold and silver concentrate belonging to Grupo Minero Bacis. The stolen cargo is valued at millions of dollars, and the attack lasted an hour and a half, according to CNN.

Armed criminals attacked a truck carrying 33 tons of gold and silver concentrate belonging to Grupo Minero Bacis, causing millions of dollars in damages. The assailants blocked the vehicle with two cars, took the driver and security guards hostage for an hour and a half, then stole the trailer loaded with the precious cargo en route to the port of Manzanillo.

Although the truck itself was later found, the attached trailer disappeared without a trace. According to the company, the exact amount of losses is still being calculated, but the damage amounts to several million dollars.

The incident occurred amid a surge in highway robberies across Mexico - in the first two months of 2025, their number increased by more than a third, reaching over 24,000 cases. The gold and silver concentrates carried by the truck are semi-processed raw materials with a high content of precious metals, making them especially attractive targets for criminals.
