Hot summers, lack of moisture, and soil depletion often turn a perfect green carpet into a sad, yellow patch. But don't panic. Restoring a rich emerald shade to your grass is entirely achievable if you take a comprehensive approach.

Here are three key steps that will help bring your lawn back to life quickly.

Deep and proper watering

Shallow daily watering is the most common mistake gardeners make. For grass to turn green again, water must penetrate deep into the root system.

Water your lawn exclusively early in the morning (before 9 AM). This allows the water to absorb into the soil before the heat sets in.

Water less frequently but more abundantly. The soil should be soaked to a depth of 10–15 centimeters.

Two intensive waterings per week are sufficient for recovery.

Aeration and raking out dead grass

Even with perfect watering, moisture may not reach the roots due to a dense layer of old, dry grass on the soil surface.

Take a fan rake and thoroughly remove all yellowed, dead grass. After that, be sure to aerate — pierce the soil with garden forks or a special aerator to a depth of 8–10 centimeters. This will open up access for oxygen, water, and nutrients directly to the root system, stimulating the growth of new green shoots.

Balanced fertilization

Weakened grass urgently needs nutrients to restore its pigmentation. The key element responsible for a rich green color is nitrogen.

After aeration and abundant watering, apply a specialized complex lawn fertilizer with a high content of nitrogen and iron.

Be sure to spread the granules evenly and only on dry grass to avoid chemical burns to the leaves. After fertilizing, water the lawn well again to help the beneficial micronutrients dissolve and reach the soil.
