The Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globe Awards recognize outstanding achievements in American and international film and television. This prestigious award ceremony has been held annually since 1944. The ceremony, a vital component of the film awards season, traditionally takes place in January and serves as a significant lead-up to the culmination of the film industry awards season, the Academy Awards, known as the Oscars.

The Golden Globes were founded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). It's an organization representing international journalists who report on the American entertainment industry.

During the 2020s, the HFPA was criticized for its ethics, with accusations of insufficient accountability and a noticeable absence of Black representation among its members. The 79th Golden Globe Awards faced a boycott from its broadcaster and other production companies. The subsequent year saw the return of a televised ceremony following calls for reform.
