Many people with diabetes follow strict diets, and this is a mistake. The endocrinologist said that you don't need to limit yourself too much, but only avoid 2 foods completely.

Causes of diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is insulin-dependent and occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin to absorb sugar (glucose) from food and cannot convert it into energy. It is a chronic condition.

Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body does not produce or use insulin to its fullest potential. This is the most common type of diabetes.

Gestational diabetes is diagnosed during pregnancy. Although it can be observed for some time after the birth of a child.

How to eat

According to endocrinologist Olesia Pidmurniak, strict diets and the rejection of most familiar foods in diabetes are myths that people are often terrified of.

People with diabetes do not have strict nutritional taboos. The main thing is not a "ban" but a reasonable choice of products, their quantity, and constant monitoring of blood glucose levels.

Limiting simple carbohydrates

It is important to reduce the consumption of foods with a high glycemic index, such as sugar, honey, sweets, flour products (especially white flour), and sugary drinks.

Tasty and balanced nutrition

The diet should be rich in nutrients, including complex carbohydrates (cereals, whole grain bread), proteins (meat, fish, eggs, legumes), and healthy fats (oil, nuts, avocados).

Products with hidden sugar

You should always check the composition of prepared foods, such as yogurt, sauces, and snacks, as they can contain a lot of sugar.

In addition, even healthy foods in excessive amounts can affect your sugar levels.

What foods to avoid completely

Alcohol

The doctor noted that alcohol can be consumed in moderation, but only after consulting a doctor.

Fast food and trans fats

These foods are best avoided because they affect metabolism and weight.
