Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of Оctober 14

Ukraine’s Defense Forces are holding their positions along the entire front line, with heavy fighting, airstrikes, and intense artillery fire reported in several sectors, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
During the past 24 hours, 154 combat engagements were recorded. Russian forces carried out one missile strike and 62 airstrikes, launched one missile, and dropped 129 guided bombs. In addition, they used about 3,535 kamikaze drones and conducted 2,929 artillery strikes targeting Ukrainian positions and settlements.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanskyi directions
Five combat clashes took place. Russian forces launched four airstrikes, dropped 12 guided bombs, and carried out 131 attacks, including five from multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern Slobozhanskyi direction
Sixteen attacks were recorded in the areas of Vovchansk, Kamyanka, Zakhidne, Kutkivka, as well as toward Kolodiazne and Bolozhivka.
In the Kupiansk direction
Seven Russian attempts to advance were reported near Pishchane, Petropavlivka, and Novoplatonivka; one assault is ongoing.
In the Lyman direction
Ukrainian forces repelled seven attacks near Drobysheve and the settlements of Serednie and Kolodiaz.
In the Sloviansk direction
Four attacks were repelled as Russian forces attempted to advance near Yampil, Pereizne, and Vyimka.
In the Kostiantynivka direction
Ukrainian troops repelled ten attacks toward Kostiantynivka, Berestok, and near Shcherbynivka, Pleshchiivka, Rusyn Yar, and Poltavka.
In the Pokrovsk direction
Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions 59 times in the areas of Volodymyrivka, Nove Shakhove, Nikanorivka, Krasnyi Lyman, Sukhestske, Dachne, Mykhailivka, Novoekonomichne, Promin, Lysivka, Zviryache, Kotlino, Myrnohrad, Vdale, Molodets-Pokrovska, and Novopavlivka.
Preliminary reports indicate Russian losses in this sector amounted to around 153 troops killed and wounded. Ukrainian forces destroyed six vehicles and five drones, and struck two UAV control posts and four artillery pieces.
In the Oleksandrivka direction
Seventeen Russian assaults were repelled near Ivanivka, Oleksandrohrad, Vorone, Verbove, Maliivka, Yalta, Sichneve, Sosnivka, Novomycolaivka, Poltavka, and Krasnohorskyi. Another six engagements are ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction
No offensive actions by Russian forces were recorded.
In the Orikhiv direction
Five attacks were reported near Stepove, Plavni, and Stepnohirsk; an airstrike was carried out on Novoandriivka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction
Russian aviation struck the area of Olhivka with unguided rockets.
Following the recent Russian drone attack on Polish territory, NATO countries have intensified their interest in Ukraine’s experience in counter-drone warfare. Kyiv continues to receive specific requests from partners seeking to study how Ukraine’s counter-UAV defense system has evolved since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump expressed disappointment that Russia’s war against Ukraine has lasted nearly four years despite earlier expectations of a quick resolution. He said he does not understand why Vladimir Putin has prolonged a conflict that, in Trump’s words, has caused Russia "numerous problems."
