The US has acknowledged talks about a Trump-Putin-Xi summit and outlined the risks of war, Reuters cites US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.

In Samarkand, journalists asked him about a possible meeting between US President Donald Trump, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, at which they could discuss ending the war in Ukraine.

“There's been talks of a meeting. I don't know whether it's been finalized, but the president has been clear. He'd like the war in Ukraine and Russia to end,” Rubio replied.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the Kremlin chief had proposed meeting with Trump and Xi next month to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.

According to the media, Trump did not agree to the meeting. It remains unclear whether such a summit will take place.

What Rubio said about the war

The secretary of state also added that the US sees “nothing good coming from this war.”

“We see a lot of downside to it, including the very ‌real risk of escalation and spread of this thing... into another country because of a failed sabotage attack, because of drones that are hit with electronic warfare and they wander into a neighbouring country,” Rubio explained.

Russia is proposing a trilateral summit with the US and China in November to reach an agreement on ending the war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not expected to be invited to the meeting.
